NRG Energy Settlement With The State Of California Will Be Good For Electric Vehicle Owners

For decades, NRG Energy and the State of California have been involved in a dispute over price inflation for energy contracts. Now the two parties have reached an agreement and the settlement could be a huge boon for electric vehicle drivers.
The agreement will have NRG Energy spend $100 million on fast-charging stations for electric vehicles, new plug-in units and upgrades for chargers. One-fifth of the new charger installations will take place in low-income neighborhoods.
Drivers using the chargers will be able to pay for as few as 15 minutes of charging time and NRG will collect the fees.
The settlement also includes $20 million in ratepayer relief.
California’s Governor and state regulators have already approved the terms of the agreement; now it is awaiting federal approval.
